Mars Ice

Ice?

These images were acquired by NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander's Surface Stereo Imager June 15 and 18, 2008.

The scientists believe they show sublimation of ice in the trench after Phoenix scooped up some Martian dirt; the images covering a course of four days.

In the lower left corner, lumps disappear, similar to the process of evaporation. Click on image to see the animation effect.

Relying only on the information we get through media and Nasa press releases, I still think it is a little too early to be 100% sure that it is ice we see on those photos. It does however look promising. The evidence is now pointing in the direction of finding ice on Mars' pole area.
