Jason-1 & Jason-2

Tandem Jason for Ocean Topography

The Jason satellites measure sea surface heights giving us an image of the ocean topography. This information is what we use to study ocean circulation, one aspect of climate change. The satellites have a limited life span and we are in the process of positioning the latest generation called Jason-2. In a transition period there will be two Jason's up there flying in tandem giving us a double doses of sea surface heights.

The mission proceeds successfully. :-)
